“We are all embarked upon a strange, aimless journey from nowhere to nowhere — or to put it a bit more cheerily, from somewhere to somewhere else — according to the friendly sojourner in Will Eno’s Title and Deed, a haunting and often fiercely funny meditation on life as a state of permanent exile…. The graven imprint of Samuel Beckett is strong in Mr. Eno’s solo works” wrote the The New York Times. A nameless stranger traveled from an unknown land similar to our own yet uncertain in its parallel. He is dour and apologetic for his down quality yet paints a picture of his world as festive “We have a parade for almost everything.” In Eno’s world the audience, the space, the theatre are all one – which fits director Jerry Mouawad’s world of theatre and his ability to bring out “the moment” with terse and simple language within an indefinable universe. Mouawad teams up with powerhouse actor Todd Van Voris who plays the foreigner. They worked together in Imago’s acclaimed production of Eugene O’Neill’s “Hughie” in 2016 for which Van Voris received a Drammy nomination for best actor.
